All visitors need a visa for India, except citizens of neighboring Nepal and Bhutan. The Indian government has introduced 60 day, double-entry electronic visas for citizens of 161 countries.

Tourist visas are generally issued for six months, depending on what nationality you are. Most visas are multiple entry visas.

The cost of an Indian Tourist Visa varies between countries according to the arrangement between governments. Rates were revised on April 1, 2017. The current fee for US citizens is $100 for up to 10 years. Processing is additional.

The Indian visa application process is outsourced to private processing agencies in most countries. The Indian government has replaced most foreign companies with Indian companies. You will have two fees to pay – a Government processing fee and the visa company service fee.

Along with your application and fee, for an Indian Tourist Visa you'll need to submit your passport that's valid for a least six months and has at least two blank pages, a recent passport sized photo, and details of your itinerary. In some countries, copies of flight tickets and proof of residential address may also be required.

The currency of India is Indian Rupee (). One Rupee is divided into 100 Paise. Rupee currency notes come in the denomination of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 2000. Current exchange rate is US$ 1= 72/-, 1 Euro = 83/- (approx).

English is commonly used in all business transactions, however the main spoken language is Hindi.

Currency exchange facilities are available at banks and at hotels. Most banks are open from 10 am to 4 pm from Monday to Friday; however some banks offer extended banking hours. 24-hour ATMs are located in shopping centers and many neighbourhood markets.

India is 5-1/2 hours ahead of GMT, 4-1/2 hours behind Australian Eastern Time & 10-1/2 hours ahead of American Eastern Standard Time.

Voltage in India is 220 to 240 volts, 50Hz. You will need an adaptor, which can be purchased in India. Hotels usually provide dual voltage razor sockets, 110 to 210 volts or 220 to 250 volts. Please ensure that you bring multi voltage chargers rather than 110 chargers with step-up/step-down transformers. These transformers get too hot and there is a high chance of them exploding. India mostly has round pinholes so please do ensure that you bring a flat to round pinhole converter. This is very important as otherwise you will have a problem in getting your phone and other electrical items charged.

We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance before travelling to India.
